Hesari kertoo WoW-elämästä

WoW on nyt aihe, joka yltää jo Suomen valtamedioihinkin. Helsingin sanomien viimeisimmässä kuukausiliitteessä oli juttu, jossa kirjoittaja lähtee tutustumaan WoW-ilmiöön aloittelijana, kokee refer-a-friend -viritykset ja päätyy lopulta tasolle 80. Useamman aukeaman pituinen juttu ihmettelee harrastustamme monelta eri kantilta.

Erityisen mielenkiintoista WoW-lehden kannalta on se, miten artikkeli sai alkunsa. Keskustelin Hesarin jutun kirjoittaneen Jussi Ahlrothin kanssa sattumalta FIGMA:n eli suomen peli- ja multimediayhdistyksen gaalassa aiemmin tänä vuonna. Hän kertoi tutustuneensa WoW-lehden ensimmäiseen numeroon ja huomanneensa, ettei pelin slangi avautunut lainkaan maallikolle. Uteliaisuudesta alkoi silloin useamman kuukauden retki Azerothiin.

Kannattaa siis kaivaa kuukausiliite esille ja tutustua juttuun. On aika mielenkiintoista nähdä, miten rakas peliharrastus joskus näyttäytyy “normaaleille ihmisille”

Hmm, eihän ne kaikki “muut” ihmiset välttämättä ymmärrä pelaamista elämäntapana vaan laskevat typerykset senki riippuvuudeksi.

Olisi kiva jos saisi WoW-lehden kestotilauksena suoraan postilaatikkooni, ilman että tarvis aina käydä uudelleen tilaamassa. Kiitos.

Toki huomasin HS:n liitteen, luin sen mutten ollut tyytyväinen. Yksi osa siitä oli: “Olen vihdoin saavuttanut jotain todellista! Olen saanut virtuaalisen ratsun.”
Tämä hämmästytti. Se antaa todella huonon kuvan mielestäni. Kuin:”Älä pelaa minua! Jäät koukkuun ja todellisuuden rajat katoavat”. Toki tälläistä tekstiä on tullut jo muualta, en uskonut että HS ottaa niin suuren kannan. Vaikkei sitä suoraan tekstissä lue on HS:n kanta selvä.

Hands down, Apple’s app store wins by a mile. It’s a huge selection of a variety of apps vs a rather sad choice of a handful for Zune. Microsoft has plans, especially in the realm of games, but I am not sure I’d want to bet on the future if this aspect is important for you.
